Session Description:

Security, compliance, and the associated compliance standards, like NIST, ISO, SOC and HiTrust are an ever-present discussion in Healthcare relative to HIPAA and PHI. This presentation will discuss how NIST standards are used in these certification efforts and provide some information on the different types of Organizational Compliance certification programs. No prerequisites required, information will be accessible to beginners. Webinar will be a presentation format with a Q&A session at the end.

Learning Objectives:

Discuss NIST standards are and how compliance certification programs, like SOC2, leverage these to assist entities with compliance. Discuss how the NIST standards and other corporate compliance programs feed into HIPAA compliance. Provide information to facilitate the discussion regarding which approach is best for an individual’s organization.

Speaker Bio:

Andrew Foland has over 25 years of experience working in the Healthcare Industry and Healthcare IT. Mr. Foland holds a bachelors’ degree from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and a master’s degree from the University of Maryland. Mr. Foland has served in a number of capacities over his professional career. Mr. Foland has worked as a patient advocate, IT systems administrator to his current role as a strategic leader for DECO including being DECO’s compliance and Security Officer. Mr. Foland has been a State of Maryland Baldridge reviewer and in 2020 Mr. Foland oversaw the successful DECO effort to become and SOC2 compliant and certified company.
