Qualifications
The successful candidate will have at least eight years of financial management experience gained within an academic medical, faculty practice plan, or healthcare system. The successful candidate will have an advanced understanding of all revenue cycle functions and interrelationships and of budget, cost, and productivity management. An undergraduate degree is required; a masters degree and either CPA, CMA, CHFP or FHFMA certification are preferred, with the CPA strongly preferred. Candidates must have strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as a demonstrated customer service orientation.
Job Description
Duke University Health System in Durham, North Carolina, seeks a Divisional Chief Financial Officer of the Patient Revenue Management Organization.
The Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO), the centralized billing and collections office for Duke University Health System (DUHS), focuses on streamlining the revenue cycle through enhanced management of scheduling, registration, coding, reimbursement, billing, collections, cash application, payor relations and customer service. The organization consists of over 1,300 employees and in fiscal year 2008 the PRMO was responsible for billing $4 billion in gross charges while collecting $2 billion in cash. DUHS is an integrated academic health system that includes Duke University Hospital, Durham Regional Hospital, Duke Raleigh Hospital, The Private Diagnostic Clinic and Duke HomeCare and Hospice.
The Divisional Chief Financial Officer (DCFO) directs the financial support operations and other financially and control-focused departmental units within the PRMO. Reporting jointly to the Chief Operating Officer, PRMO and to the DUHS Associate Vice President, Finance and Corporate Controller, the DCFO plays a key management role in ensuring the PRMO fulfills its mission to provide patients with a first class administrative experience while ensuring that DUHS and its physicians are reimbursed accurately and efficiently for the services provided.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field required.
Minimum of five (5) years experience in healthcare accounts receivables management (billing and collections) required.
Must possess strong financial, technical and professional skills.
Must have strong oral and written communication skills & ability to effectively represent the department and Hospital in interactions with third party payers, patients, physicians and other departments.
Must possess analytical and problem solving skills and be able to work and communicate effectively with other departments.
Must have excellent working knowledge of local, State and Federal regulations pertaining to Hospital billing and collections.
Additional Qualifications:
Certified Manager of Patient Accounts of the Hospital Financial Management Association preferred
Related patient accounts software preferred and Epic software knowledge highly preferred.
Job Description
In this role, the manager of Patient Access will plan, organize and direct business processes related to patient entry into multi-campus, multi-organization healthcare systems as well as, provide leadership, organizational structure and management for long-range planning and efficient daily operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage, coordinate, plan and direct daily operations of patient entry into a multi-organizational Patient Access System.
Actively participate in on-going policy and procedure reviews and revisions to Patient Access Systems and processes to ensure timely, accurate collection of required patient entry information.
Develop, implement and monitor a fully integrated patient access process that includes Pre-Service and Time of Service processing flows. Ensures that comprehensive data elements are collected and edits resolved so that claim is payable when transferred to billing.
Management of departmental personnel to ensure qualified work force.
Successful management of up to 75 + employees with any disciplinary and performance management issues that may arise.
Prepare and deliver written performance evaluations within Hospital and/or department defined standards and time frames.
Actively participates in the development and attainment of departmental goals and objectives as it related to the organizational strategic mission and initiatives.
Conducts and facilitates leadership and management activities which drive performance and optimize Patient Access Processing impact and contribution to the management of accounts receivable, cash flow,and bad debt and charity expense.
Participate in meeting the goals and objectives of the work unit and department to ensure that the department contributes to the attainment of the Hospitals goals and objectives.
